The lazy way to burn calories

“If you look like a pear and all you do is cardio with no weight training, all you will look like is a smaller pear.” -Bill Philips, Exercise Enthusiast.

I’ve been thinking about that statement and questioned the validity of it for years. Bill Philips was an advocate for Body For Life in the 90s and early 2000s. Of course he looked like the model exercise guru because every one of his pictures showed him with his shirt off showcasing his huge muscles. So I had to believe him, right?

However after researching and living out exercise the last 16 years (including my time in the U.S. Army, to my weight exploding to 270 pounds, back to losing 80 pounds over the next 8 years, and owning 2 gyms) I’ve found the easiest way to lose weight is by weight training. Let me explain.

Our body loses 3 to 8 percent of muscle mass every decade according to the CDC. My time in exercise has taught me that the more muscle mass you have the faster your metabolism goes. This is why men lose weight faster as well. Also, as you sleep after you weight train, your body burns fat as it repairs your muscles with protein. Fat is the preferred source of energy at rest.

But when asked, 1 out of 5 women do not get the recommended 2 1/2 hours of Cardiovascular exercise or 2 sessions of weight training as prescribed by the Center for Disease Control (CDC). Why is that? According to this article there are many obstacles in the way from women achieving this objective:

1. Most women believe they will “bulk up” and look less feminine. This is not true. High estrogen levels do not allow women to bulk. The only way women do bulk is with steroids which pumps the body full of testosterone. Most women who do body building (most, not all) use steroids.

2. Women don’t necessarily know what they’re doing in the gym. Problem solved! At our Ladies Only Private Club personal training is INCLUDED!! So there is NO guess work. Also, our first workout is free so you can see what we can do for you!

3. Women feel they might hurt themselves so they prefer “classes” instead of tedious weight lifting routines. Our machines at Ladies Super Fitness are designed for women. Also, machines are safer because of the controlled range of motion the machine provides which adds stability and therefore reduces injury. Also, classes are fun and women love them because they provide structure. Our personal trainers are also fun, and they provide the structure needed so you know what you are doing and you move with a purpose, not like a free radical who is pushed around with the wind.

4. Women are fearful they might look “stupid” due to lack of experience. Again, this is why we have direction with personal training. This service sets Ladies Super Fitness apart from the rest of the fitness industry. Say “NO” to forking out extra cash for personal training and say “YES” by setting your eyes on a Ladies Only Private Club. Our mission is to empower the ordinary woman to become extraordinary. -LSF
